After last year’s trial, our libraries will soon roll out our new federated search engine (WebFeat). I wonder how that will impact the troubleshooting reports we receive. If our users are linking through the new interface, it may be harder to find out where they’re having problems.
Let me put that another way.
If a patron can’t access an article they found using the federated search, will they be able to tell us which resource it’s from?
To resolve it (starting with recreating the problem), it seems likely that we’ll have to check all the sources for the title. There could be only one source or as many as seven or eight. (Or more; I really haven’t kept track of the title with the most links.)
Is this a reasonable concern? Are there other implications for e-resource management?
