EBSCO workaround

Lots of activity around here this morning: EBSCO released an enhancement over the weekend that resulted in some problems accessing some of the links on the electronic journals list. You’ll see a message at the top of the electronic journals list that says:

EBSCO notice

I spoke to a representative at EBSCO who clarified that the problem is only temporary. This is the workaround that they recommend we use until they come up with a permanent solution. It seems like that will be fairly soon. Of course, it can’t be soon enough. I’m keeping my colleagues here, in reference, and in ILL informed of anything I learn. I also sent them instructions for adjusting the pop-up blocker which they can copy and send to any patrons who have problems:

In Firefox, go to “Tools” and select “Options”
click the “Content” icon
the box for “Block pop-up windows” can remain checked to protect the computer, but select the “Exceptions” box at the right
under “Address of website”, type: ebsco.com
click “Allow” and ebsco.com will appear in the list
click OK

In IE, go to “Tools” and select “Internet Options”
select the “Privacy” tab and make sure “Turn on Pop-up Blocker” is checked (you want this on)
click the “Sites” button
in the “Address of website” box, type: ebsco.com
select “Allow” (not block) and the domain will appear in the list below
select OK and select OK again
(some people still have problems after doing this; I encourage sticking with Firefox until this is resolved)
